Five days ago, the United States Department of Justice began releasing further information from the Jeffrey Epstein files, revealing that President Donald Trump had a particularly close relationship with the man, and that the American leader allegedly had a predilection for young girls and touched them in private areas.

The new information is contained in nearly 8,000 newly released pages from the Epstein files, published on the US Department of Justice website on 23 December 2025.

Jeffrey Epstein was a powerful financier who was imprisoned in 2019 following serious charges including child trafficking for sexual exploitation purposes.

Epstein died in prison approximately a month later in what was reported as suicide. However, many maintain he was killed to prevent secrets from emerging that could have implicated several powerful world leaders.

This is because Epstein was friends with politicians, powerful leaders, and numerous financiers, including Trump himself. Many have linked Epstein's death to Trump, as he was President at the time, suggesting he aimed to suppress information in the files.

The new information released on Monday includes audio recordings, photographs, and documents that have been shared in various ways.

Some of these documents include correspondence allegedly from Epstein revealing messages indicating Trump's behaviour towards young girls.

Details contained in a letter reportedly signed by Epstein and sent to Larry Nassar, a former doctor serving life imprisonment for convictions of child sexual abuse.

The message describes Donald Trump as someone who "likes secondary school-age girls". It further states: "When a young girl walks past him, he likes to touch them in private areas."

The newly released documents also reveal that President Trump and Epstein had a close relationship, as Trump frequently travelled on his private aircraft.

Between 1993 and 1996, Trump appeared eight times on the passenger list for that aircraft.

On one of these journeys, the aircraft reportedly carried only three people: Donald Trump, Epstein, and another person aged 20, whose gender was not specified.

However, Trump has previously stated that he had actually ended his entire relationship with Epstein before any criminal investigation began.

Igihe.com's Government Control

Multiple Freedom House reports (2019-2024) consistently document that Igihe.com operates under substantial government influence:

  • During the 2017 presidential campaign, editors at Igihe were not allowed to publish articles on candidates challenging President Kagame Rwanda: Freedom on the Net 2019 Country Report | Freedom House +3
  • Security officials frequently interfere with editors to prevent publication of stories on certain topics and alter content criticising the government Freedom House
  • The Office of the Government Spokesperson reportedly has administrative access to websites of nominally independent newspapers and routinely removes stories deemed critical of the Kagame administration Freedom House

The Geopolitical Context

The timing is significant: a Rwandan government-influenced outlet publishes demonstrably false allegations against Trump just weeks after the US publicly accused Rwanda of violating Trump's peace deal. This appears to be retaliation through disinformation rather than legitimate journalism.

The article is doubly problematic - both spreading a debunked fabrication and potentially serving as an instrument of state-sponsored disinformation during a diplomatic conflict.

The Critical Issue

The article is based partly on a fake letter that was included in the DOJ's December 23rd file release. The FBI has concluded that the letter purportedly from Epstein to Larry Nassar is "fake" CNNNPR, and the DOJ issued a statement saying "This fake letter serves as a reminder that just because a document is released by the Department of Justice does not make the allegations or claims within the document factual" NPR.

Why the Letter Was Deemed Fake

The postmark was from Virginia (not New York where Epstein was jailed), it was processed three days after his death in August 2019, and the return address incorrectly identified the jail where Epstein was being held PBS.

What Is Actually Documented

The files do confirm:

  • Trump flew on Epstein's private jet eight times between 1993 and 1996 NPR
  • On one 1993 flight, Trump and Epstein were the only two passengers; on another flight the three passengers were Trump, Epstein, and a 20-year-old CNBC

However, Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing in connection to Epstein by law enforcement GBH.
