Nayinzira Yohani Nepomusene, ni umusaza w'imyaka 62. Yayujuje  tariki ya 10 z'ukwa 3 muri uyu mwaka. Azwi cyane muri poritiki y'u Rwanda, ariko cyane cyane guhera mu mwaka wa 1991, ubwo yashingaga ishyaka PDC - Parti Democrate Chretien - ritavugaga rumwe n'ubutegetsi bwariho.
Nyuma ya genocide kandi Nayinzira Yohani Nepomuscene yakomeje gukorana na guverinoma nshya, aba minisitiri,  aza no kuba depite mu Nteko Ishinga Amategeko, ndetse aba n'umukuru w'inama y'igihugu y'ubumwe n'ubwiyunge.
Icyakora Nayinzira Yohani Nepomuscene yaje kuva ku mirimo y'ubudepite ashinjwa imyitwarire mibi, bituma  anasezera mu ishyaka rye k'ubushake bwe. Ubu yagiye kwiturira mu cyaro, mu kagari ka Kinyaga, umurenge wa Rubungo, akarere ka Gasabo, mu ntara ya Kigali Ngari. Twamusanze iwe,  tugirana ikiganiro gikurikira:
Uracyakora politiki?
Oh! Ndi umunyapolitiki. Kuko ndi umunyagihugu, kandi nkaba mfite akarusho kuko nanyuze mu nzira nyinshi zirimo amashyaka, ubuyobozi, n'ibindi. Hari ibintu byinshi nagiye mbona, nkaba  rero ntapfa  guceceka gusa, cyane ko mbona muri iki gihugu cyacu hakiri ikibazo cyo gutinyuka kuvuga ibintu uko biteye. Ushatse gutinyuka kuvuga agomba kujya hanze. Ntabwo ubundi ariko byakagombye kugenda. Icyo batinya n'iterabwoba rihari.
Muri iki gihe haravugwa  ikibazo cy'itahuka ry'Abanyarwanda bagize umutwe wa FDLR, basaba gushyikirana na guverinoma y'u Rwanda ku mitahukire yabo. Ibyo basaba bifite ishingiro?
Bifite ishingiro kandi icyo kibazo kigomba kwigwa neza. Ntabwo FPR ishobora kuvuga ngo abantu ntibagafate imbunda baharanira uburenganzira bwabo, kandi nayo ariyo nzira yanyuze. FPR siyo ishobora gutanga amasomo kuko nayo yafashe imbunda muri 90 kandi dialogue yari gushoboka. Bashoboraga gusaba uburenganzira bwabo nk'abatutsi, badafashe imbunda ngo bamene amaraso. Kugira ngo wigishe abantu kugera ku butegetsi mu mahoro nawe wagombye kuba waranyuze iyo nzira. Ntabwo rero FPR yakwigisha bariya barwanyi ba FDLR bafite ibirwanisho ngo bazatahe bamanitse amaboko kandi nayo itarayamanitse. Abagize FDLR ni Abanyarwanda kimwe n'abandi, kandi u Rwanda ni urwa twese. Igihe rero hari ibibazo bishyamiranya abenegihugu, hagomba imishyikirano mu mahoro. Imishyikirano rero ni ngombwa ndetse ikwiye gukorwa vuba.
Guverinoma y'u Rwanda ivuga ko harimo abakoze genocide.
FDLR ariko isobanura neza ko abicanyi bayirimo ubutabera bufite uburenganzira bwo kubakurikirana. Ubu ni byo biri mu Burundi. Imitwe yarwanyaga Leta ubu iri mu butegetsi, ingabo zayo zavanzwe n'iza Leta.  Ndakeka ko u Burundi bumaze kudusiga intambwe. Kutavuga rumwe biba bisaba ko abantu bagomba kuganira kugira ngo bagire ibyo bumvikanaho. Kandi ni yo byaba ishyaka rimwe ntabwo burya abaririmo baba bavuga rumwe. Ubu se abatangiye muri FPR hasigayemo bangahe ? Bagiye bagongana bapfa ubutegetsi, ubukungu n'ibindi.
Ubona hari ingaruka ihari guverinoma y'u Rwanda yanze gushyikirana, FDLR na yo ikanga gutaha?
Icya mbere ntabwo FDLR izataha imanitse amaboko. Biragaragara kandi kuko aho gutaha bohereje abagore n'abana. Jye mbona FPR niyanga  ibiganiro, bazaza nk'uko nayo yaje. Ndakeka ko ari ukutareba kure no kudafata amasomo mu byo na bo banyuzemo.
Gacaca yo urayibona ute?
Jye ndabona iri mu bizatuma iki gihugu gisambuka. Impamvu ni uko usanga ibyaha by'itsembabwoko byaratandukanyijwe n'ibyo itsembatsemba n'ibindi byaha by'intambara. Ni ukutamenya ubutabera. Niba gacaca igamije ubwiyunge, abiciranye bagomba kujya mu gatebo kamwe, Abanyarwada bakabategeka. Uwamennye amaraso wese y'Umunyarwanda, uko yayamennye kose, agomba gushyirwa ku meza. Niba hari uwayamennye ahagarika ubwicanyi agomba kuza na we bikamenyekana niba ari légitime defense (kwirwanaho) cyangwa niba ari ikindi yakoraga. Ubundi muri socio-politique abarebwa na gacaca ntibagombye no kugera ku ijana. Ndashaka kuvuga iki? Bari 33; niba rero bashaka kumenya abateguye ubwicanyi nibarebe abo bantu. Ntabwo ari abantu ibihumbi magana arindwi. Ikindi, defense civile yategetswe n'ubuyobozi n'abanyamadini. Ariko ubu abaturage ni bo bari guhonyorwa.
Wemera ko itsembabwoko ryateguwe?
Kuvuga ko itsembabwoko ryateguwe ni argument. Kuko uwashatse ubutegetsi ku ngufu yari azi neza ko abantu bazashiriramo. Ikindi kuvuga ko ihanurwa ry'indege ya Habyarimana nta ruhare ryagize mu bwicanyi bwo mu Rwanda ni ukwibeshya. Habyarimana ntitugomba kumureba nka Habyarimana, ahubwo tugomba kumureba nk'uwari perezida w'igihugu, wasinyanye amasezerano na FPR. Ni na cyo kibazo. Uwamwishe n'ubwo tutaramenya uwo ari we, afite uruhare mu ikindagurwa ry'Abanyarwanda. Amasezerano y'Arusha  yahagarikaga intambara n'ubwicanyi. Uwabikoze rero, ni we washenye ayo masezerano, byose abisubiza irudubi. Amasezerano amaze gusinywa, aho kugira ngo inzego zateganywaga zijyeho, ari MRND yatangiye gucukura imyobo, na FPR itangira gucukura iyayo.
Ntabwo urajya gutanga ubuhamya muri gacaca rero?
Nibantumira nzajyayo, ariko nabwo nta cyo nzabamarira kuko nta cyo nabonye. Kandi umunyapolitiki yagombye kugaragarira mu rwego rw'igihugu. Hagombye rero kubaho gacaca y'abaturage n'iyo abanyapolitiki. Kuko kenshi ntitwabaga muri za quartiers. Twirirwaga twiruka mu manama atandukanye ndetse tukanahura na FPR. Ibintu rero mfite biri ku rwego rw'igihugu, si urwo mu kagari kuko nta n'umuyobozi waho nigeze mvugana na we. Kandi  jye aho nari ntuye hahise hafatwa vuba.
Bamwe mu bayobozi b'Abahutu bakoranye n'ubutegetsi bwa kera ubu barashinjwa n'inkiko gacaca. Urabavugaho iki?
Kiriya ni ikintu gikomeye. Bigaragaza uburyo bitumvikana ukuntu wakemera gukorana n'abantu nka bariya, ubizi ko bafite ibyasha, ngo nurangiza wange gushyikirana n'abandi wita abicanyi. Niba wemeye gukorana n'abo bose bari gushinjwa, nta mpamvu abo hanze utashyikirana na bo. Ni aho rero FDLR igaragariza ingufu zayo. Muri abo bashinjwa hari abandwanyije kera kuko bakoreshwaga none baragaragaye. Ni abantu batagira aho bahagarara, bahora bajarajara. Cyakora jye naraboroheye nirinda no kuvangira ishyaka kugira ngo ritazamo amacakubiri.
Urashaka kuvuga Mukezamfura Alfred?
Yego. Yandwanyije kera kuva nkiri minisitiri ushinzwe ibidukikije. Ariko yarakoreshwaga kuko bagenzi be bafatanyaga baje kwivumbura, babivamo. Naho rero ku giti cye ibikorwa bye bibi si ibya vuba kuko n'igihe yari akiri bourgmestre wa Mukingi atitwaye neza. Ibyo byari bizwi na FPR, yari ibizi imukoresha ibizi.
Akazaza k'u Rwanda ukabona ute?
Noneho ibyo Pasiteri Bizimungu yavuze muri Jeune Afrique l'Intelligent  ko Abahutu bazongera bagafata  intwaro murabihuje?
Yabaye nka ya nyoni y'inkotsa. Ibyo yavuze bifite ishingiro kuko yagendeye ku bushakashatsi bwakozwe n'abahanga. Ndibuka ko muri 96 turi mu nama ya guverinoma Pasiteri yadushyikirije inyandiko y'umwe mu bahanga mu iyigamoko. Iyo nyandiko ikaba yaragaragazaga ko ikibazo cy'Abahutu n'Abatutsi nikitigwa neza na nyuma ya genocide bazongera bicane barwanira ubutegetsi no gusuzugurana. Benshi mu bategetsi iyo nyandiko barayizi. Na perezida uriho ubwe arayizi kuko icyo gihe yari muri iyo nama. Ibyo yavuze rero ni iby'abahanga banditse. Ese koko sosiyete y'abantu 700 000 [abayobozi bashinjwa  gacaca] nubigizayo iyo sosiyete izasigara imeze ite? Perezida Museveni yigeze kuvuga ati ''ntabwo wahangana n'abantu ibihumbi 50 ngo wihe kutabumva, kubera ko bakoze iki n'iki. Buri wese muri abo wigijeyo umubariye abo mu muryango we 50 ba hafi, waba uhanganye na miliyoni 2 n'igice. Ati abo bantu wahangana na bo ute ?'' Ikibazo rero dufite ni politiki, kigomba kubona igisubizo cya politiki. No mu gihe cy'Abadage hahanwe abantu bo hejuru.
Kuri wowe rero ubwiyunge bw'Abanyarwanda buracyari kure.
Mu byukuri ubwiyunge bw'Abanyarwanda muri iki gihe ni ubwa nyirarureshwa. Abagombye kwiyunga si bo biyunga, ahubwo hiyunga abavuga rumwe.  Ubundi abagombaga kwiyunga bagaragazwaga n'amasezerano ya Arusha. Ayo masezerano yavugaga ko abari k'ubutegetsi n'ababushaka ari bo bagombaga kwiyunga. N'inama y'ubwiyunge yari iteganyijwe ni abo bantu yarebaga. Kandi izo mpande ebyiri ziracyariho n'ubwo habaye itsembabwoko n'itsembatsemba. Ku mpande zombi haracyari abantu batakoze itsembabwoko n'itsembatsemba. Cyakora nsanga ukuri kuzagaragaza strategies mbi za FPR.
Gahunda y'ubwiyunge ariko, n'ubwo utayemera, na we  uri mu bayiyoboye.
Icya mbere uko nagiyeho ntabwo nasabye kuba perezida wa komisiyo y'ubumwe n'ubwiyunge. FPR ni yo yantoranyije. Ntabwo rero nagiye muri uwo mwanya ngo nkore uko mbyumva. Narakoreshwaga. Navuga ibintu bya politiki ngo ibyo ngibyo nta mwanya bifite. Harimo kandi n'ikibazo cy'ibikomere by'abantu ku mutima biturutse ku marorerwa bari bavuyemo, mbese abantu bagihanganye. Hari rero mu bihe  bikomeye. Cyakora ntabwo byambujije gukora inyandiko nerekana ko hakwiye kubaho ibiganiro mu rwego rwa demokarasi na politiki, kandi Abanyarwanda bose bakinjizwamo.
Ubu se twavuga ko hari ikibazo cy'Abahutu n'Abatutsi?
Ikibazo kirahari. Ndetse nkabona bifitiye inyungu ubutegetsi buriho guteganya vuba ibiganiro kuri icyo kibazo mu rwego rwo hejuru.  Icyo kibazo cyagaragaye kuva kera muri za 58 Rudahigwa atarapfa. Icyo kibazo rero kikaba gikwiye kuganirwaho neza.
Ni kuki Perezida wa repubulika atakwituye kandi mwarapiganywe akagutsinda, ukabyemera kandi ukanamushimira intsinzi ye?
Ibyo biri mu bushake bwe. Biriya bimeze nk'ibya MRND. Na yo yagusangizaga ku butegetsi iyo wemeraga kuba igikoresho. Ibyo kuba igikoresho narabisabwe ariko ndabyanga. Uzarebe nyine abemera kuba ibikoresho ni ba bandi bahora bahuzagurika mu bitekerezo byabo.
Watumara amatsiko k'uburyo ubaho muri iki gihe nta kazi?
Ntunzwe n'igitunze nyabuturi [ndlr: umuturage nyakujya]. Umuturage udafite munsi y'urugo abaho ate? Uko abaho nanjye ni ko mbaho. Ubu nize uko umuturage utagira akazi abaho, nanjye mbaho gutyo.

Why We Exist

Many abuses facing African people are committed by African states, ruling elites, armed groups, military forces and security services. But these abuses are often sustained by international silence, Western lobbying, trade interests, migration deals, mineral access, diplomatic partnerships and unequal global accountability. Africa Realities Media exposes that system.

Lived Experience Matters

Survivors, displaced communities, refugees, families affected by repression, journalists, activists, women, young people and diaspora voices are not passive subjects. They are knowledge holders. Their experiences must shape policy, advocacy, journalism and public debate. The people closest to injustice are often closest to the solutions.

Our Principle

Africa Realities Media is rooted in one principle: African lives deserve equal truth, equal justice and equal protection.

THE BATTLE OF RUBAYA: Rwanda's War for Minerals Exposed

T he FDLR Pretext Collapses Under the Weight of Documented Plunder   Introduction: A Battle That Tells the Truth When Rwandan-backed RDF/M23 forces fought with extraordinary ferocity to seize and hold Rubaya — a remote mining town in North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo — the stated justification was security. Kigali's consistent public line has been that its military presence in the DRC is a response to the threat posed by the Forces Democratiques de Liberation du Rwanda (FDLR), an armed group whose leaders include individuals linked to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. This narrative has been accepted, qualified, or left insufficiently challenged by Western governments and multilateral institutions for over a decade. The Battle of Rubaya strips that narrative bare. What unfolded in Rubaya was not a counter-insurgency operation against genocidal remnants. It was a sustained military campaign — reinforced by the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), prosecuted at sign...

Desperate Kagame: Where Does He Go From Here—and What Comes Next?

How Paul Kagame Uses Diplomats' "Bury Your Head in the Sand" Strategy as a Green Light to Continue Rwanda's War in the DRC Africa Realities Media   |   17 July 2026 The purpose of this article is to expose a deliberate and systematic strategy: Paul Kagame's years-long practice of creating events — diplomatic dinners, RPF party meetings, genocide commemorations, international business forums and RPF Bureau Politique addresses — to which he invites foreign ambassadors and the world's business and political elite for one purpose: to explain, justify, and defend Rwanda's military invasion of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Everybody who follows this region knows the strategy now. The same narrative. The same arguments. The same defiance. At one event he tells the Trump Administration to go to hell. At the next he says those sanctioning him will leave power and he will remain. At the RPF Bureau Politique of 17 July 2026, he tells ambassadors that the on...

The Kagame Myth: Western Power, Private Jets and Rwanda’s Controlled Reality

ANALYSIS AND INVESTIGATION Introduction: The Myth and the Man Behind the Myth There is a version of Paul Kagame that exists in the conference halls of Davos, in the pages of Western magazines, in private hotel meetings in London, Paris and Washington, and on the sleeves of European football shirts. In this version, Kagame is a visionary. A builder. A disciplined African moderniser. A leader who pulled a broken country from the ashes of genocide and turned it into what admirers often call the “Singapore of Africa”. In this version, Rwanda is clean, efficient, safe, investment-friendly and orderly. Kagame is presented as the African leader the West wants to believe in: controlled, polished, pro-market, security-focused and comfortable in elite Western spaces. Then there is the Rwanda that many Rwandans, exiles, journalists, opposition figures and human rights organisations describe. In this Rwanda, YouTubers and online commentators are jailed for what they say. Critics die in custo...

The FDLR Myth: How Rwanda Weaponises a Diminished Threat to Justify Occupation

The FDLR Myth: How Rwanda Weaponises a Diminished Threat to Justify Occupation Investigation Exposes Contradictions in Rwanda's Security Narrative For over a decade, Rwanda has justified its military presence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo by citing threats from the FDLR, a Hutu militia group linked to the 1994 genocide. But an investigation into FDLR's actual capabilities, Rwanda's military operations, and patterns of violence reveals a narrative that does not match reality. The FDLR threat, whilst real, has been systematically exaggerated and manipulated to justify objectives that have nothing to do with the militia group. Introduction The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) occupies a central position in Rwanda's justification for military intervention in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. For more than two decades, Rwandan authorities have portrayed the militia group as an existential threat requiring sustaine...

The Aggressor’s Complaint: Why Rwanda’s “Biased” US Sanctions Argument Echoes Russia

Kigali wants Washington to punish Congo too. But a ceasefire that leaves the occupier in place is not peace; it is occupation without noise. African lives are not worth less. African deaths are not normal. Western interests must never become a licence to kill African people. Introduction: A Familiar Complaint On 29 June 2026, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, sat before the cameras of France 24 and declared that his country was “disappointed by the increasingly biased US mediation” in the conflict with the Democratic Republic of Congo. He asked why sanctions had targeted only Rwanda. He called the measures unfair, one-sided and counterproductive. Weeks earlier, President Paul Kagame had told Jeune Afrique that sanctions and threats were insults thrown at Rwanda, and accused Washington of exerting heavy pressure on Rwanda while treating the DRC more delicately. The grievance sounds reasonable until you remember where you have heard it before. Since 2022, the Kr...

The Empire of Kagame’s Global Friends: The Powerful Network Behind His International Protection

This article identifies the central obstacle to accountability for Paul Kagame’s actions in Rwanda and the Great Lakes region: the powerful global network of political leaders, former presidents, diplomats, philanthropists, religious figures, businesspeople, international institutions, sporting organisations, advisers and paid lobbyists that has promoted, legitimised, defended and protected him for three decades. This is a problem-identification article. It asks why Kagame has remained internationally influential and protected despite serious and extensively documented allegations concerning Rwanda’s military actions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, political repression, extraterritorial operations, mineral exploitation and the treatment of political opponents, journalists and critics. The answer is that Kagame has built an international network that gives him political access, diplomatic protection, commercial partnerships, institutional legitimacy, favourable media coverage, ...

French State-Sponsored Racism Without Limits Against the Hutu in France.

French State-Sponsored Racism Without Limits Against the Hutu in France France does not simply remember the Rwanda genocide. It owns it. For three decades, the French state has sponsored and enforced a racist political order — criminalising Hutu identity, silencing African expertise, enforcing a one-sided judicial record and reproducing the same ethnic hierarchy Belgium imposed on Rwanda under colonialism. This is not a failure of memory. It is state-sponsored racism without limits, dressed in the language of historical accountability. African lives are not worth less. African deaths are not normal. Western interests must never become a licence to kill African people. Introduction: Racism as Policy The genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda was real. Between April and July 1994, following an invasion of Rwanda launched by the RPF from Uganda on 1 October 1990, initially under the command of Major-General Fred Rwigyema and subsequently led by Paul Kagame after Rwigyema was killed ...

Why Africa Realities Media Is Different

Africa Realities Media speaks to Africa and to the developed world. Many abuses facing African people are committed by African states and ruling elites, but they are often protected by international silence, lobbying, public relations, trade interests, migration deals and unequal global accountability. While governments pay lobbyists to present a good image abroad, ordinary African people continue to face violence, hunger, disease, poverty, repression and exclusion. We challenge the normalisation of African suffering and demand equal truth, equal justice and equal protection.

Policy and Systems Change

Our work is designed to trigger debate, discomfort and action. We do not only expose injustice; we work for policy and systems change. We want governments and institutions to address the root causes of inequality, disadvantage, discrimination, exclusion and barriers affecting African people. We believe lasting change must be shaped by people with lived experience.

Exposing Injustice in Africa

Africa Realities Media is an independent African accountability platform based in London. We report, analyse and challenge the systems that shape African suffering, silence African victims and protect abusive power. We are not here to repeat diplomatic language. We are here to ask the questions that are often avoided: why are African deaths treated as normal? Why are African victims given less urgency? Why are governments that imprison, exclude, displace or kill their own people protected when they serve powerful international interests?

Africanews

Africa Realities Media gives space to writers, researchers, experts, activists, community voices, campaigners, analysts and people with lived experience who want to contribute thoughtful, responsible and courageous content about the changes needed in the region, as well as the political, economic, cultural and social African realities that are often ignored, minimised or misrepresented. Our articles and videos aim to encourage debate, raise awareness, stimulate critical thinking and support reflection. We seek to help people in the Great Lakes Region understand their rights to human rights, development and wellbeing, while also encouraging decision-makers to be more transparent, responsive and accountable.
