In Summary
A new film shot in Uganda takes on the horrifying practice of child
sacrifice by witchdoctors in many parts of the country.

The media in Uganda sometimes carries gruesome stories of mutilated
bodies of children discovered in swamps, bushes or at roadsides —
victims of an apparently growing belief in the power of human
sacrifice.

The children are either abducted or lured with gifts or money by the
murderers. Then witchdoctors, who demand exorbitant consultation fees,
bury the children alive under a construction site or use body parts
and blood for rituals.

Now, a new Ugandan film, The Superstition, which premiered at the
National Theatre on July 1, attempts to tackle the menace of child
sacrifice in Uganda.

Directed by Paresh Gondaliya, the film is about a single father called
Wawuyo (Roger Masaba), living in Kampala, who jealously protects his
son Jonathan (Benjamin Masereka).

Wawuyo, an army veteran, has returned from duty in Iraq where he was
working as a security officer. On returning home, he finds that, in
his wife Adrina (Grace Lindsey Mbabazi) had been cheating on him.

He parts from her, and a one-time stint with a prostitute results in
the birth of Jonathan. He struggles to eke out a living for himself
and the child; a DNA test confirms that Jonathan is his son.

But one day, as Jonathan is returning from school, he is abducted by a
notorious murder gang on the orders of an engineer, who sacrifices him
at a construction site in the city — and Wawuyo seeks justice.

The Superstition is co-directed and written by Aaron Zziwa and
produced by Gondaliya Brothers Motion Pictures Ltd. It will be
screened at this year's UguFilm Festival in South Africa in September.

"Child sacrifice is practised in many parts in this country. Even rich
people are involved in this practice. People need to be sensitised
about this and it should be stopped," Gondaliya said.

Also in the cast are Ernest Bbumba, Raj Gondaliya, Jayant Maru, Edlyn
Sabrina, Aaron Zziwa, Robert Ernest Bbumba, Terray Ombaka and Peter
Lwanga.

Witchdoctors involved in ritual killings ask for blood, body parts
like the heart, liver and genitals, to be consumed by spirits. They
claim the spirits speak directly to their clients and demand these
body parts as a tool to solve myriad problems.

As a way of protecting their children, some parents circumcise the
boys and pierce the ears of the girls because "damaged bodies" are not
considered pure enough for human sacrifice.

The Uganda police have linked the frequent cases of human sacrifice to
the country's economic boom and prosperity, and an increasingly belief
that witchcraft can bring wealth and good health.

According to official police figures, cases of child sacrifice rose
from one case in 2006 to 25 in 2008, 29 in 2009, and dropped to 14 in
2010.
Some 43 suspects were arrested for interrogation in 2010, out of whom
26 were taken to court and charged with murder, four were charged with
attempted murder and causing grievous harm for witchcraft purposes,
and two were charged with criminal trespass and harming a dead body.

Aucun autre pays n'a encore ...

Paul Kagame: “We refuse to remove defensive measures"

Paul Kagame Refuses to Implement the Washington Accords and UN Security Council Resolution 2773: Analysis and Implications In an exclusive interview published on 3 April 2026, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda openly confirmed that Rwandan forces are deployed in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, rejected calls for their withdrawal, dismissed US sanctions as illegitimate, and signalled clear satisfaction with the current military status quo. This briefing examines what Kagame said, what his remarks mean for the Washington Accords, and what concrete steps the United States must now take if it wishes to restore credibility to its diplomacy in the Great Lakes region. Introduction: A Confession Wrapped in Grievance The interview, conducted by François Soudan and published in Jeune Afrique on 3 April 2026, is one of the most candid public statements Paul Kagame has made on Rwanda's military role in the DRC. Its significance does not lie in revealing something previously unknown. Th...
