INTERNATIONALDans une lettre ouverte datée du 5 décembre, le pasteur
Joseph Mukungubila Mutombo avait fait part de son amertume quant à la
gestion du pays et tenu un discours haineux à l'encontre du Rwanda
voisin.

Les preneurs d'otages maîtrisés lundi à la Radio-Télévision Nationale
Congolaise (RTNC) ont affirmé agir pour le compte d'un pasteur,
ex-candidat à la présidentielle de 2006, remportée par l'actuel
président, Joseph Kabila, selon un journaliste de la RTNC.

Des jeunes armés "de machettes et d'armes" à feu, selon la police, ont
forcé lundi matin l'entrée de la RTNC et pris en otages des
journalistes. Avant que le signal de la chaîne ne soit coupé, ils se
sont réclamés d'"un candidat malheureux de la présidentielle de 2006,
Joseph Mukungubila", a déclaré ce journaliste à l'AFP.

Dans une lettre ouverte datée du 5 décembre, le pasteur Joseph
Mukungubila Mutombo avait fait part de son amertume quant à la gestion
du pays et tenu un discours haineux à l'encontre du Rwanda voisin,
dont il rappelait les agressions contre la RDC et avec qui, selon lui,
le président Kabila pactise.

Le porte-parole du gouvernement, Lambert Mende, a expliqué à l'AFP que
"les enquêtes vont déterminer s'il faut prendre au sérieux (les)
revendications" des preneurs d'otages.

En début d'après-midi, les programmes habituels de la RTNC n'avaient
pas repris et des émissions de la RTNC2, dont le journal, étaient
diffusées à la place.

Selon M. Mende, huit assaillants ont été tués à la RTNC par les forces
de sécurité, et 32 autres ont été tués à l'aéroport et à l'état-major
général, situé au camp Tshatshi - deux points stratégiques attaqués
par des assaillants non identifiés.

En début d'après-midi, des tirs étaient encore audibles du côté de
camp Tshatshi, selon un chauffeur de taxi.

La maison de l'instigateur présumé cible de tirs

Des tirs ont résonné lundi matin à Lubumbashi, deuxième ville de la
République démocratique du Congo, près de la résidence d'un pasteur
dont des fidèles avaient pris auparavant des otages à la télévision
publique, a-t-on appris auprès d'une ONG. "Autour de 11h00 locales
(09h00 GMT), il y a eu des crépitements de balles. Ces tirs auraient
eu lieu dans les parages de la résidence du +prophète+ Joseph
Mukungubila", a déclaré Timothée Mbuya, président de l'ONG des droits
de l'Homme Justicia.

La situation, selon lui, est redevenue calme à Lubumbashi, capitale de
la riche province minière du Katanga (Sud-Est), où séjourne
actuellement le président Joseph Kabila, originaire de cette région,
comme le pasteur Joseph Mukungubila Mutombo.

24 corps d'assaillants retrouvés à l'aéroport

Au moins vingt-quatre personnes ont été tuées lundi à l'aéroport de
Ndjili à Kinshasa, a constaté un journaliste de l'AFP.

Auparavant, Lambert Mende, porte-parole du gouvernement, avait fait
état d'un bilan provisoire de 16 assaillants tués à l'aéroport. Le
porte-parole avait ajouté que 16 autres assaillants sont morts à
l'état-major général et 8 à la Radio-Télévision Nationale Congolaise
(RTNC), cibles d'attaques simultanées.

Des vols annulés

Brussels Airlines a décidé d'annuler les vols aller et retour prévus
lundi entre Bruxelles et Kinshasa, à 10h40 (depuis Bruxelles) et dans
la soirée (retour depuis Kinshasa), selon les dires de la porte-parole
de la compagnie aérienne, Wencke Lemmes. "Les passagers d'aujourd'hui
ont tous été rebookés sur le vol de demain", ajoute Wencke Lemmes, qui
précise que Brussels Airlines "surveille la situation de très près".
"Nous ne prenons jamais de risques avec la sécurité de nos passagers
et du personnel, nous avons donc décidé d'annuler les vols
d'aujourd'hui", indique Wencke Lemmes.

Selon les autorités congolaises, la situation était à nouveau sous le
contrôle de la police vers midi. Brussels Airlines reste toutefois "en
contact permanent avec son personnel sur place" et envisagera si
nécessaire d'autres annulations de vols, précise Wencke Lemmes. Comme
il s'agit d'un cas de force majeure indépendant de la volonté de la
compagnie, aucun dédommagement n'est prévu. Si la situation ne change
pas, les vols de mardi et des jours suivants seront maintenus.

Aucun problème signalé pour les quelque 3.000 Belges à Kinshasa et Lubumbashi

Les Affaires étrangères ont pris lundi contact avec les 1.855 Belges
résidant à Kinshasa et les 1.225 à Lubumbashi, à la suite des
violences survenues à la télévision publique, à l'aéroport
international et à l'état-major général, a indiqué leur porte-parole à
l'agence Belga. Aucun compatriote n'a été concerné par ces violences.

Les troupes gouvernementales ont repris le contrôle de la situation à
Kinshasa, précise le porte-parole des Affaires étrangères. L'aéroport
international de Ndjili, situé à la sortie de Kinshasa, a été rouvert.
Les vols - donc ceux de Brussels Airlines qui a suspendu les deux vols
prévus lundi - devraient donc reprendre, poursuit-on. Les troupes
gouvernementales sont également en train de ramener le calme à
Lubumbashi.

Le ministre Didier Reynders a suivi la situation de près, en contact
direct avec les autorités congolaises, précisent également les
Affaires étrangères.

We are here to ask the questions that are often avoided: why are African deaths treated as normal? Why are African victims given less urgency? Why are governments that imprison, exclude, displace or kill their own people protected when they serve powerful international interests?
